Here I was hired with the idea of supporting their growing personal computing and network. Being one of the first cellular companies, L.A. Cellular was growing by leaps and bounds. Problem with that is no one really knows the best way to grow. I was faced with a political landscape of contention; some people’s job being obsoleted by emerging technologies. With this growth I was able to identify areas needing more efficiency. I pitched the idea of consolidating 3 disparate computers to a single workstation using Virtual Machines and 3270 emulation software. This involved testing, design, and procurement of a highly sensitive 21 workstation LAN.
